YMCA Philosophy on Community Development Some Community Development Programs that the YMCA are engaged in include:
YMCA Open Doors Community Clothing The Bridge Project An individual's status on the health continuum (how strong they are) is determined by the sum of their circumstances at any given time. The continuum shows that communities are made up of people who display a range of 'healthy' (strong) and 'risky' (not so strong) behaviours with the majority of behaviours falling between 'very healthy' and 'high risk' . In responding to this picture of people in our communities, the YMCA aims to move every person it encounters to a more healthy (stronger) position on the continuum. Recognising the complexity of terms such as 'Health' and 'Strength', the YMCA supports a broad definition, and purposefully targets programs and services that develop health and strength in a variety of ways: - Physical health - Enhancing social networks - Family support - spouse, parents, close friends and mentors - Financial security - Personal safety - Emotional well-being - Mental health For any questions on any of these YMCA Community Programs, please contact Customer Service at the Ascot Vale Leisure Centre on (03) 9375 3411 or via email ascotvale@ymca.org.au |
